FMPCT's Values, Mission and Purpose
Welcome to the Francis and Maisie Pryor Charitable Trust (FMPCT). Named after the finder of Flag Fen, FMPCT is an independent organisation born from a shared passion for archaeology, heritage and the environment — and now the group is refocusing its efforts on supporting and safeguarding the extraordinary Flag Fen Archaeology Park and its surrounding landscape.
At Flag Fen, a 3,500-year-old timber causeway and platform have been uncovered within a rich Bronze Age fenland, offering visitors a unique window into Britain’s past alongside a vibrant natural habitat. With the site under threat from our changing climate and the passage of time, FMPCT is stepping up to help protect this remarkable place, and to help ensure its story, its archaeology and the wildlife of the fen remain accessible, alive and resilient.
At the heart of FMPCT’s strategy, and that of the archaeology park itself, is Flag Fen Futures, a 10-year project that will research and revitalise the site through new partnerships, innovative new archaeological approaches, and accessible installations and experiences suitable for all visitors.
Our core mission is to raise funds for Flag Fen and support Flag Fen Futures — enabling restoration, conservation, interpretation and educational work. Grants and scholarships will still form part of what we do, but we now focus on one priority: any funding we offer must contribute directly to the future of Flag Fen. More on grant applications can be found here.
FMPCT Trustees work with local partners, schools, community organisations and individuals who share our passion for heritage, nature and sustainable learning. Together we aim to:
-
Secure Flag Fen’s future by supporting urgent projects, repairs and new initiatives.
-
Enhance the visitor experience, educational programmes and outreach, so more people can connect with this remarkable place.
-
Protect the landscape around the archaeology, ensuring the heritage and environment thrive side by side.
-
Inspire the next generation of researchers, students and volunteers who will carry this work forward.
We invite you to join us: whether by donating or leaving a legacy, applying for a grant aligned to this mission, or simply spreading the word amongst your family, friends and professional network.
Your support will help Flag Fen remain a place of discovery, wonder and learning for everyone.
